As you may know, we are partnered with the amazing WDC* (Whale and Dolphin Conservation). They are a leading, global charity who work tirelessly to protect Whales and Dolphins. So far, as a result of our wonderful Alpha customers donations, we have managed to raise over £12,000 to the charity – money which has been put towards The Beluga Sanctuary project.

The Beluga Sanctuary Project
In January of this year, The Sea Life Trust and WDC announced that Cargolux (a European airline) will sponsor the flight to help relocate the beluga whales, Little Grey and Little White from captivity in China to a sanctuary in Iceland. Given that the journey is complex and due to bad weather conditions, the departure of the whales has been temporarily postponed. But, fear not, as soon as the weather clears up, Little White and Little Grey will begin the journey!
The plane will take the two whales, along with their trusty care team, over 6,0000 miles to the only open water sanctuary for beluga whales, in the world!
Given that the two beluga whales have been in captivity since a young age, they may never be able to live in the wild. This is because they lack skills such as the ability to hunt and fend for themselves in the wild.
Sadly, there are more than 3,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises held in tanks around the world. If we want captivity to end, then these animals need somewhere to go. Similarly, to Little Grey and Little White, these creatures can’t just be put back in the ocean. In some cases, they can re-learn integral survival skills, however for others they will require human care for the rest of their lives.
