We're used to seeing them glammed up and strutting down the red carpet, but celebrities love to get away from it all just as much as us. Although you may never see Kim Kardashian donning a backpack and hiking boots, there are plenty of famous people who do enjoy camping out in the middle of the most beautiful places in the world.
Here are five celebrities who adore backpacking, and where they went, so you can follow in their footsteps.
The Downtown Abbey actress shot to a new height of fame after starring as Cinderella in Disney's live-action film of the same name. In an interview, Lily explained that the red carpet lifestyle had knocked her home-life out of whack. She had become so used to other people managing her life for her, Lily realised she needed to "œregain her sanity".
There aren't many things less Hollywood than backpacking, so Lily decided to fly out to south-east Asia to stay in huts that cost just £2 a night. We don't know exactly where we she went, but we recommend visiting south Thailand and its picturesque islands. Koh Phi in particular is gorgeous, and you can go and explore The Beach used in that classic Leonardo Di Caprio film.
Benedict has played a wide variety of roles in his career so far, from British icon Sherlock to a fearsome dragon called Smaug, but did you know he once taught English at a Tibetan monastery? In the years before he was famous, he went on a gap year, during which he took a trip to Nepal for two weeks with some friends. Together they camped under the stars and went white-water rafting.
If you too would like to go trekking in Nepal, the Annapurna circuit is a popular choice with tourists, as it is absolutely beautiful. To avoid the crowds, though, we suggest going at the end of November or during the spring.
When he was much younger, Prince William also took a life-changing gap year. During his travels, he visited a number of charities in Africa and volunteered in southern Chile as part of a ten-week programme. He loved his adventure, but it wasn't always easy - at one point, he spent almost a week on an isolated beach in a three-man tent.
The Prince stayed in many different places on his trip, including Caleta Tortel. Keen backpackers should definitely visit this Chilean fishing village. It's the perfect place to go if you want to get away from it all - you likely won't find a Wi-Fi connection here.
Tom spends most of his time in swimming pools, so we can't blame him from wanting to escape from them and go and do something a bit different. Perhaps that's why he decided to go travelling and make a TV show about it, called Tom Daley Goes Global. Over the course of his adventure, he visited many locations popular with backpackers, including Thailand, Japan, New Zealand, Morocco and Australia.
Not many of us can afford to go to all those destinations in the space of a few weeks, so perhaps it's best to pick just one. During his time in Australia, Tom went to Fraser Island and we recommend that you do the same. It's the largest sand island in the world, but there's much more to do here than just sunbathe; there are rainforests to explore too!
It's no secret that TV presenter Julia Bradbury loves walking, and in 2010 she took on Iceland's most famous trek - the Landmannalaugar Trail. It took her four day to complete and she said it was "œthe best walk of my life".
The trail starts at Landmannalaugar's colourful rhyolite mountains, which are truly a sight to behold. Accommodation is limited, but you can camp at the huts along the way - be sure to make reservations before you go. If you're interested in doing the trail yourself, you can find out more here.
See; it is possible to live like a celebrity! Hopefully some of their journeys will inspire you to take your own. Just make sure you're well equipped and fit enough to do so.
