The strikes planned by the Greek Trade Unions for the 12th-13th October 2016 have now been called off.
There may however, still be some disruption to some flights or journeys; please contact your tour operator or your airline for more information concerning your travel arrangements.
Short-notice strikes are still a possibility, so make sure you keep fully up to date with any further announcements via local and international media, your tour operator and your airline.
Alpha’s Policy on Strike Action
In the event of travel delay or cancellation due to strikes, industrial action or failure of public transport preventing you from returning home prior to your policy expiration, Alpha will extend your medical expenses cover until you are able to return home.
Unfortunately, Alpha is unable to provide cover for any 'strike or industrial action that started or had been announced before the date of your departure from home'; so you will be unable to claim for any travel delays, travel abandonment or cancellation via your Alpha Travel Insurance policy.
How can your Airline or Tour Operator Help?
The Package Travel Regulations state that your airline or tour operator should provide help and compensation if a strike disrupts your journey by giving 'prompt assistance to a consumer in difficulty'. This could be in the form of a full refund, rebooking onto another flight or via another route; you should directly contact your tour operator or airline as soon as possible to discuss your available options.
