There is simply nothing quite like the exhilarating feeling of checking another thing off of your bucket list; whether it is a bungee jump in America, elephant trekking in Thailand, or exploring the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. A recent survey conducted by TravelSupermarket has revealed that 2014 is in fact set to be the best year for travel.
The survey showed that the average British traveller will spend a total of £617 for a 10 day trip to Spain - a favourite holiday choice boasting an array of sandy beaches, a great climate and plenty to see and do for people of all ages. 14% of holidaymakers visited the country in 2013, whereas this year its popularity is set to decline slightly, dipping to 12%.
The reason for this slight decline is that many people are choosing to skip the annual visit to Spain and travel further afield - 7% of people are planning to visit the USA and 3% will be exploring Turkey. Holidaymakers plan to spend a whopping £1076 per person on their overseas trip (including flights, entertainment, accommodation and meals) as some admitted that they cut back on last year's holiday in order to afford a nicer one this year.
So where is the best place to go for the holiday? Only 29% said they were planning a nostalgic beach getaway compared to 39% in 2013. This year the most popular choice is an urban city break with an increase in popularity from 30% to 35%. June, July and August will continue to be the most popular months to travel, but this year we are expecting an increase of trips by those who are travelling for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The reasons for travel showed that 39% of young adults are looking to seek out adventure and adrenaline, perhaps also trying new sports. However the majority of those quizzed (67%) said that they travelled abroad to spend quality time with their families.
