Ski Safety

Many of our customers have decided to travel overseas during the Christmas period in search of snow filled mountain peaks and ski schools. The thrill of travelling down the white powdered slopes and the smell of the chilled air can be an instant adrenaline rush, so it's no wonder why so many people are heading for the slopes this season.

Although the sport can be undertaken by those of all ages, it is important to remember to wear the correct safety gear regardless of your abilities. If you are a beginner, chances are you feel more vulnerable to slips and falls and will take precautionary measures to protect yourself. On the other hand, you may have been skiing for many years without an accident and feel that it is simply not necessary to wear safety gear such as helmets.

Ski safety and the use of helmets has always been a debatable issue over the years, especially with media headlines including the tragic death of Natasha Richardson in 2009. She sustained injuries whilst not wearing a helmet. Many European ski schools have now made wearing helmets compulsory as a result.

Although helmets may not be the most comfortable or stylish thing to wear whilst out on the slopes; they can potentially save your life if you were to have an accident. Even the experienced skiers should always expect the unexpected. Generally speaking, an average of 2,329 people were admitted to hospital in Canada alone for head and neck injuries, which could have been prevented by simply wearing a helmet.
