Teaching subjects vary greatly, but one of the most common and popular topics is English Language. You will be required to enroll on a course for a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate. This will involve learning some basic teaching methods and progress your existing skills and knowledge. Upon completing the course, you will be able to enroll on a work placement of your choice.
Teaching abroad is becoming an increasingly popular choice for those on gap years; accommodation is usually provided in or near the school you're teaching and the pay is very good. Some students have even managed to earn back the cost of their original flights with money to spare!

Helping others abroad is a great way to make a difference and a big impact to the lives of others. There are a variety of options available to suit all tastes, including working with animal conservations, charities, engineering, working on a farm, health care, orphanages, schools, or even constructing buildings and painting.
Placement requirements vary greatly - a duration of 1 month, 3 months, 12 months; during Summer or Winter - every placement is unique and it is important to do your research to find the right one for you.
Generally there are no specific qualifications needed to enroll on a placement although personal qualities such as communication, problem solving and a 'can do' attitude are all excellent transferable skills that will help your application.
If you are considering applying for a program remember you will also need to obtain a working visa dependent on your chosen country!
