Festival’s season is well and truly underway, with summer just about making an appearance for us! Here in the UK the summer months are packed full of music festivals with Glastonbury already finished, but all around the world throughout the year there are different festivals going on that you might find yourself in the middle of if you’re thinking of going travelling in the next few months.
That’s why we’ve put together our Festivals Feature; so you know the when and where!
We’ve picked 6 of what we think are the most interesting and fun festivals around the world over the next few months, in the destinations we think you lovely lot might fancy backpacking or holidaying to.
14th July – 17th July 2016
An annual music festival in the town of, strangely, Benicàssim in Spain, it usually has music acts dedicated to pop, electronic and rock. It attracts a younger crowd who are looking to escape the muddy wet festivals at home and party in the sun. It’s right near several beaches which are perfect for chilling out during the day as the bands generally play later in the day and into the night. It’s growing every year in popularity, with well over 50,000 people attending last year so you’d better get your tickets quick!
The very first Festival Internacional de Benicassim (FIB) took place in 1995 and since then it’s snowballed into one of the most awaited European outdoor festivals, particularly popular with Brits who are attracted by the warm sunny weather.
Tickets are still available on the official website and they offer a wide range of different time scales you can take advantage of. The most cost effective is a 4 day ticket, but if you’re backpacking and just passing through one day tickets are also available for Thursday through to Sunday.
If someone says Benicassim you immediately think of the music festival. But there’s loads of other things to do here too if you only fancy spending one day immersed in one of Europe’s major outdoor music festivals.
There is an absolutely huge water park called Aquarama, just south of the Spanish town and if you book online you can get a bit of a discount. There are lots of different beaches to choose from if relaxing in the sun is your thing, and there’s also a vast array of villas, castles and churches which will satisfy your historical passion if that’s what you’re interested in seeing.
Travel insurance! We can’t stress the importance of this enough, especially if you’re in a foreign country drinking alcohol and being a little bit stupid. If you're going away for a long period of time backpacking and seeing the world, we'd definitely recommend a Longstay policy which can cover you for up to 2 years, or you can choose a Single Trip policy which is great if you're just paying a short visit to Benicassim.
Next post will be about the Full Moon Party in Thailand coming up on 1st August!
